Archive: Barn

I'm in the process of moving every digital image I've ever taken from DVDs to one big hard-drive. I've come across a few gems in the sea of mediocrity.

On July 2, 2005 I was hanging out with a farmer in Midland, Michigan and took this single frame of light coming in through the barn.

such a great surprise!

speaking of hard drives, do you also have a backup in case this new hard drive fails?

Do I Ever! Currently I'm just backing up to what will be my off site drive. When my new Drobo Firewire 800 arrives that will be my main archiving space. And my desktop has mirrored RAID drives. So all my current work will be on 5 duplicate drives and my archive will be on 3, one of which is off-site. And of course I got duplicate DVDs of everything through 2007 (one set off-site), which I guess I'll just keep around.

Next pay day I'd like to get a second off-site drive so I can rotate them easier.

Whew!

I should confess at this point I'm a product of the D-65 workshops.

um - awesome photo. and amazing archive essay. we all live in fear of that "great fire" one day.

or the expected self-destruction of a hard drive, all on it's own.
